Game Completion 2020 #57 – Super Mario Sunshine

Expected not to enjoy Super Mario Sunshine given the derision it’s received over the years, but I ended up enjoying it a whole bunch, even if not my favourite 3D Mario game.

Game Completion 2020 #55 – Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath

  • Platform: Switch

A dated but still enjoyable mix of third-person action and first-person shooting. I reviewed it way back when on Vita and was pleased to find it holding up well still on Switch today.

Game Completion 2020 #54 – Yes, Your Grace

  • Platform: Switch
  • Developer: Brave at Night
  • Publisher: No More Robots

A lite but charming Kingdom simulator that sees you as a stressed King managing his family, wars on several fronts, plus the needs of his fickle people.

I liked it a lot, but those looking for a deep management sim should probably look to other options.

Game Completion 2020 #53 – Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee

  • Platform: Switch
  • Developer: Oddworld Inhabitants
  • Publisher: Oddworld Inhabitants

Was the only Oddworld game I’d never played before and, after playing it, I’m sad to say it’s definitely the weakest of the series. That said, most of its problems stem from its age (a violently resistant camera and finicky controls the most notable), so it’s hard to be too mad at it.

Game Completion 2020 #52 – Dark Souls III : The Fire Fades Edition

  • Platform: PS4
  • Developer: FromSoftware
  • Publisher: Bandai Namco

I loved Dark Souls III’s mechanical advancements, its combat, visuals and world exploration, but I did not like that it rehashed old themes and concepts from the original game.

It felt like From had enough of Dark Souls II whiners and said ‘fine, have the first game again’. With that much fan service it almost felt more like a directors cut at times.

Game Completion 2020 #51 – Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions

A very different type of football game that’s endearing as hell despite being rough around the edges. Weirdly one of my favourite games this year.

Days Gone is an example of the best kind of 7/10.
